Three Keys to Getting Unexpected Help Around the Home — 4 Comments

  1. Good advice, Susie. Yes, it has taken many years together before my husband offered to help in the kitchen. I am partly responsible for that. His garage is his domain, and I don’t interfere in his management of tools or work area. My kitchen is my domain, and I know where everything goes. In a small kitchen, if everything isn’t in its place, the drawers get stuck and won’t open. I can load more dishes in the dishwasher than anyone else in the house. Consequently, I don’t really want too much help in the kitchen, just as he wouldn’t want my bungling help when he’s working on car or tractor repairs. But he does a great grilled cheese sandwich, bakes banana bread, and always makes the coffee. He doesn’t complain about my cooking, so I don’t complain about his mess. I just clean it up. I’d much rather do dishes than cook. It works for us.

    • Thanks, Faye, for your comments.
Wow! Banana bread and a great cup of java; I’d do dishes for that!
Thanks for taking time to reply. Sounds like you have the system worked out. I think that is the key to a happy family; finding what works for you. When I had Mother to care for I had to let others do things their way in the kitchen and laundry and it was difficult at first to let go. Even more so, the challenge was to not ‘redo’ everything my way (which was the best way you know!) Have a great week and thanks again, Faye.
      Blessings

  2. I recently hurt my back and have for many days not been able to do anything. I am on day 24 of pain but can do more now.
My son who is 42 and lazy most of the time took over and cooked, cleaned did dishes. My husband helped too on his days off. What a blessing! I am so thankful for the help. Thank you God for such a wonderful surprise.

    • Isn’t it great when we do have help; enjoy it while it lasts. Perhaps this will motivate your son to do more, even when not needed so badly.

God has a way of lifting our spirits beyond expectation, even in the midst of pain. Trust you are better real soon. Thanks for dropping by.
